Any understudy of Klopp, Guardiola or Acelotti would be great. Perhaps Simeone would be willing to take a new challenge - you've got to show some ambition to get anywhere after all.

Is it possible he'll do just enough to get his big bonus for meeting his original target league position of 10th? I can see that happening with this fucker.

Re: Swansea v West Ham - Official Match Thread 1-1 FT
Would they give him any more than a 1 year contract though? Suppose It all goes wrong, as it easily could next year with no Song, Jenkinson, Reid, and possibly a couple of others - even Cresswell if they get a silly offer from anyone. They say they'll wait until the end of the season before discussing it which is fine, but let's hope they aren't of the Gold type mindset that thinks that Allardyce has deserved the opportunity to lead the team out at the OS. I fucking hope not.

Re: Swansea v West Ham - Official Match Thread 1-1 FT
I think the owners have shown themselves to be ambitious but with an understandable level of caution. It would be a surprise if Allardyce wasn't here next season but I think there's a definite conflict between Allardyce and Sullivan, underlying in the background.

We all want to see us playing football the right way and with success and I think the move to the new stadium will prompt that. We just need to be in the Premier League first and foremost (I know it's boring but it's true)

Personally I've always liked Bilic as a manager and he seems to have developed well at Besiktas with a decent blend of attractive football and physical attributes in the team.

Whatever happens regarding Allardyce and whatever people think of him, we can't ignore what he has done for the club (despite being handsomely rewarded for it)

Re: Swansea v West Ham - Official Match Thread 1-1 FT
It depends on the owners ambitions. If they are prepared to spend some real money the choices are obvious.

My company are just one of many who have have just handed over 3k and committed to 1k per month for three years for club London tickets. With that in mind their ambition needs to be more than just "safety." To be fair they have done a good job to now and need to be brave enough to push on

Re: Swansea v West Ham - Official Match Thread 1-1 FT
I agree that Sam will be our manager next season and probably the season after. Sadly it seems to be accepted fact that he guarantees safety and I think the owners largely believe that.

Hopefully Rodgers or Martinez may become available at the end of the season. I wouldn't be against Eddie Howe but I'd love to see is go all out for De Boer.

I'd like to see us do what I believe is a big reason for Southamptons and to a certain extent Swansea's success. That is I want to club to choose a good style of football and have that philosophy throughout the club from top to bottom. The manager is chosen on the basis he can work to that philosophy. That way even if you do get a manager that comes in for a year or two before getting snapped up by a bigger team (or moving on as unsuccessful) then new manager coming in doesn't mean a massive change in personnel and starting from scratch again. The squad constantly evolves and as all youth players play the same system and style the route through is easier.

You seem to have all the answers so what would you do to take us to the next level?

Just a genuine question.

Re: Swansea v West Ham - Official Match Thread 1-1 FT
Talking of Gold and Sullivan, the amount of shit that they've had dished out on this forum is incredible.

I think they've done more than enough on and off the pitch for fans to put trust in them that they're doing the right thing.

Some of the football we've played this season has been pure class and this has been hampered by the return of Carroll and Nolan and the fact that Allardyce loves them in his team. It's frustrating of course but what we're doing this season cant just be dismissed.

Hammer and Pickle 8:41 Sun Jan 11

But he can't guarantee anything, can he.

Iron2010 8:41 Sun Jan 11
Re: Swansea v West Ham - Official Match Thread 1-1 FT
It's the way we have retreated defensively in recent games and not over expectation that have led most if us to this conclusion

Re: Swansea v West Ham - Official Match Thread 1-1 FT
Wherever we finish this year, even if it's 14th, I still reckon old hippo head will get that new contract as there is no way on earth that G and S will gamble on anyone who can't supposedly guarantee Premier League football for the move to the OS the way that Allaryce apparently can

Re: Swansea v West Ham - Official Match Thread 1-1 FT
Like most things in life, unless you try you will never know.

We are terrified of getting relegated so Sam has played that card for the last 2 years. Not sure if he will get another year with his mid table and Nolan love in.

He still has time to come good this year....

Re: Swansea v West Ham - Official Match Thread 1-1 FT
That's a good point regarding Adkins as pretty much everyone was up in arms when he was replaced. However, in hindsight, it was a great decision and took them to another level.

Southampton have a great record of recruiting decent managers recently and an excellent academy. They are a very well run club.

Personally I wanted Allardyce out last season but he's played a part in our great form. He's made mistakes too but overall I'm really happy with the way that our season has gone and the way the squad is forming. If we were to replace Allardyce to progress then fine. But name the manager who we bring in now rather than saying 'Koeman' after he's proven himself in the Premier League.

If it was that easy, everyone would be doing it.

Mr Polite 8:34 Sun Jan 11
Re: Swansea v West Ham - Official Match Thread 1-1 FT
Most people including pundits and journalists said they were mad to get rid of Adkins for a man with no prem experience saying it was a massive gamble

Perhaps the way they are run is better than many thought and they are very good at reducing risk while still providing a good and exciting product

Certainly makes fools of those that think you have to play a certain way or have a certain attitude to survive being a club that size

Iron2010 8:33 Sun Jan 11
Re: Swansea v West Ham - Official Match Thread 1-1 FT
That wasn't because of Koeman it was because they sold their best players. In the same position Sam retreats into a defensive shell and after every defeat shrugs his shoulders and bemoans the amount of cash the big clubs have.

Pagey 8:31 Sun Jan 11
Re: Swansea v West Ham - Official Match Thread 1-1 FT
We have progressed though.

The trouble is that Allardyce helped to get us to third in the league and suddenly the expectation changed from staying up to reaching the Champions League. An unrealistic expectation but nice to dream for a while.

He fucked up with the selection away to Chelsea but there needs to be some reality too. We are a club who are clearly progressing the right way. Anyone who thinks differently is either in a different world or highly impatient.

The reason why Southampton have sustained it is because of their outstanding defence and their better squad. Probably because they have a better manager too. That's what happens. Fair play to them.

But the last manager was dismissed as a gamble too Pagey and that worked perfectly fine.

Pagey 8:27 Sun Jan 11
Re: Swansea v West Ham - Official Match Thread 1-1 FT
Most people, including pundits and journalists were tipping Southampton to go down this season or at the very least struggle.

Suddenly, after the success that they've enjoyed, Koeman wasn't a gamble. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

That's the kind of shitty attitude that's stops any form of progression.

Re: Swansea v West Ham - Official Match Thread 1-1 FT
Maybe, but what others forget is that we could well be rooted in the bottom half with someone else in charge.

It's far too easy to point the finger all the time yet we're currently only below six decent Premier League teams.

But your point sums up the point that I was making.
